Christmas Quiz Night
This was the first night of the Christmas festivities, with no relief until January we were able to celebrate Christmas normally with the majority of people having Christmas off. However, they would have to work if the situation dictated, for example if they could get a plane in or out they would have to give fire cover.
So with everyone having had dinner, it was up to the bar and we were put into teams. There were some good rounds with questions being submitted from various departments, the funniest round was from Nelly the out going winter Generator Mechanic, he made some props and got a few volunteers to act out scenes from one or two films. That was very comical!

Christmas Eve
This was a busy day with all 3 chefs working not only to produce the daily morning smoko and lunch, but also to set up for that evenings buffet plus lots of prep for Christmas day. The Buffet for that evening was set up in the Big TV Room adjacent to the bar, this was so that we could enjoy a few carols and mince pies and have a bit of Karaoke fun after the meal.
It all went very smoothly with quite a few volunteers helping us to prep, set up and clear down.
Everyone on base has their turn at what we call 'Gash'.... If your name is at the top of the Gash list, you are a domestic for that day, which means you are with the saints and the chefs and have a list of jobs that have to be done. These jobs include, emptying bins, cleaning corridors and toilets, washing up in the kitchen and generally helping to keep things clean tidy and topped up. Everyone from the top down does a days Gash. Over Christmas the Gash rota stated communal Gash, this was fair to everyone so that no one person had to do it all on their own.
We had a 'Gashvent Calendar' this year made by Jen, one of the air mechs and Emily a marine scientist, This was a daily treat leading up to Christmas, for the Gash person of the day to open a pocket and have the hand made chocolate that was inside.

Another successful meal and the karaoke after was a lot of fun, It was gone midnight when i walked over to my pit room to turn in for the night to get a good nights sleep to be ready for Christmas day when we would have to do it all again.
The mountains around Rothera were beautiful that evening, as the pink glow reflected off the snowy caps, I didn't see Santa though!
